This is a 1/48 scale plastic model kit of the Imperial Japanese Navy Type 96 Carrier-Based Fighter Model 2 from Fine Molds.
The Type 96 Carrier-Based Fighter is said to have propelled Japan, which was lagging behind Europe and the United States in fighter design at the time, to the forefront.
In his book, chief designer Jiro Horikoshi recalled that it was an even more impressive design than the Zero fighter.
The early model of the Type 2, Model 2, featured an enclosed windshield and a distinctive fuselage shape.
This kit recreates that distinctive form with a completely new design and mold.
This marks the first time the early model of the Type 2, Model 2, has been made into a plastic model kit.
